Both the Dometic NDR1062 & NDM1062 refrigerators require boiler monitoring for safety. The Fridge Defend is a patented boiler monitor that when installed and maintained correctly will improve safety, efficiency, and reliability of your fridge.

The 10 cubic foot Dometic refrigerators are found in both Class-A and Fifth Wheel type RVs. These fridges are very durable as long as the cooling unit is not allowed to overheat. Overheating can occur due to driving up steep hills, wind conditions that prevent ventilation of the cooling unit, and other factors that are too numerous to mention here.
The good news, the patented Fridge Defend addresses all of the issues that result in cooling unit overheating.
How? The Fridge Defend monitors the heart of the cooling unit, the boiler. If the boiler overheats, the cooling
ceases, and in turn damage to the cooling unit results.
Click here to see how the ARP helps prevent these problems.
This photo shows the NDR1062 boiler with the ARP temperature probe installed on the boiler tube. Please note that the boiler tube is behind the flue tube. Be careful not to put the temperature probe on the flue tube. Also, make sure the probe is insulated from the flue tube so that the flue does not heat the ARP temperature sensor.
One of the most common mistakes on the Dometic cooling units is to place the ARP temperature sensor on the flue tube. The result is that the ARP will trip soon after starting the refrigerator when run from the LP Gas. If the ABS variable is checked in the SetUp mode, very high readings will be displayed, in excess of 230 degrees Celsius.
The second most common mistake is to forget to insulate between the flue tube and the sensor.
If there is an air space between the sensor and the flue tube the sensor will pick up heat
from the flue tube.

This photo is a close up of the above photo. Please note that the ARP temperature sensor is mounted on the boiler tube which is easily identified by the electric heater being welded to the boiler tube. In this picture, the flue tube is behind the insulation and to the right.
The next two images show the mounting locations for the Fridge Defend black box. The first drawing shows the control mounted on the Dometic 1062 control box in the cooling unit compartment. This is a desirable location unless there is equipment in the way as shown in the next photo.
This next photo was sent to us by a happy camper to show his installation. Note that the Fridge Defend by ARP was simply mounted on the sheet metal plate in front of the boiler. This made the display of the ARP easy to see through the vent when aligned correctly.
Click here if your fridge has a boiler thermal switch that is wired in line with the power supply.

Please see the full ARP User Manual and Installation Guide for more information needed before using your ARPrv Control.
We are providing an image of the NDR1062 wiring diagram sticker. These stickers are usually not readable, please print the photo to the left if you need additional wiring information.
We understand that questions can arise, we at ARP Control are here to help you. We want you to be happy campers, so please do not hesitate to ask questions.
